20100224, bali: day 2

first day of class means laughter in huge doses during my first authorship and writing lecture with dr andrew. boy is he funny! first dinner with new housemates means they cook, i eat, i clean. i cant cook, at all! anyway... more pictures from bali thrown at your face. enjoy.

(our day started at 10am sharp. the driver took us around town where all the cute little shops by the roadside sold cute little rompers and sundresses in every possible colour and pattern combination. oh how much i wanted one!)

(the plan of the day was to first visit a batik factory with an art gallery on the second floor. it had so many beautiful paintings! so nice but so irrelevant for anyplace else except a beautiful mansion with large white walls.)

just came out from a gold and silver factory, saw a nice filigree ring that says "150" on the tag and was overjoyed. when we thought it was in rupiah and wanted to buy 3, the salesperson said: US dollar. we went cold. major disappointment. no wonder she's willing to give us 50% discount.

(our driver made a stop atop the hills on the way up to kintamani for us to take pictures and look around the beautiful paddy-lined hilltop. being the nosy tourists that we are, we snapped away alright. at anything and everything.)
things like this

on the way up to kintamani volcano, wood carvings of cats with long necks, giraffes, lizards, and spiders (ohmygawd!!), mirrors enclosed by stones of diverse colours, windchimes in many shapes and sizes, form an array of utterly colourful stretch of road. from the back seat of our apv, my eyes keep darting left to right, then left again, afraid to miss all the details on either side.

it's now drizzling outside amidst all the green of the hill, with the occasionally out-of-the-place huts. i realized that i'm rather quiet on holiday trips, especially in the car en route to our next destination. i like to look out of the car windows and take in the view. either that or i might already be in dreamland.

that 85k per pax buffet was awesome, despite that fact that we caught no sight of kintamani volcano because of the rain.

my buffet lunch portion. extreme right with the potatoes and long beans? balinese vegetable. love love love.

haha the salesperson at the handicraft store called me lenglui! seriously, i'm flattered:)

(we stopped by the mandala wisata wanara wana (what a long name) sacred monkey forest sanctuary and took pictures of the monkeys that were roaming around. they are just too cute! there was this little shop selling paintings for a very low price we just could not resist the temptation to buy a few.)

passed by a local school on the way back from ubud to the hotel and saw a bunch of little boys playing football in the school compound. although the amenities of the school seemed scarce, they are still such a happy jolly bunch. i guess you wont see this sight anymore back at home.

(because of the notoriety of the dirty duck diner's bebek bengil, we decided to drop by their place for some bebek bengil. we tapau-ed (take-away) back to our hotel, and it was surely a marvellous feast. even room service could not beat it! the specialty of this duck is that it is deep fried to a point that its bones could be chewed and swallowed as easily as its meat.)

just finished shampoo-ing and blow-drying my hair, it feels so soft after using the haven's green tea shampoo and conditioner. smooth and shiny, i like! on a different note, how much is 41 mins worth of 3g connection plus roaming coverage for maxis used in bali? i'm so dead.
