handle with care

"things that break -- be they bones, hearts, or promises -- can be put back together but will never really be whole"

the ending shocked me a little, i wanted so badly for little willow to live on. cried too much, read the last chapter twice. closed the book and put it away with tears streaming down my face, walked to the door and called out for xiaoxiao, realized it was raining. did heaven also cried for the fate of this little girl with osteogenesis imperfecta?

"when you love someone, you say their name different. like it's safe inside your mouth."

"...the day i signed that dnr in the hospital, i made a promise to my daughter. i said, if you fight, i will too. if you live, i will make sure your life is the best it can possibly be. that's what a good mother does, right?"

"people always say that, when you love someone, nothing in the world matters. but that's not true, is it? you know, and i know, that when you love someone, everything in the world matters a little bit more."

gosh. just read it if you havent yet. jodi picoult writes with so much passion in her, sometimes i wonder if she cries as she narrates these stories?

eat like a king shop like a queen

went out with simin, anusha and kaireen after class today, and ate a whole lot! filled our tummies with green tea and sushis at sakae sushi, and talked alot. dinner was cappuccino and other varieties of coffee + milo and pseudo-authentic malaysian food (think chicken curry noodles and roti bakar with slabs of salted butter and kaya or coconut filling) at pappa rich, the service was awesome!

apparently, according to simin, there is a big difference between tempura, and ebi fried!

bought clothes that had lotsa holes in them today, a rm10 top + chain that i removed and made into a necklace (which was originally like 100bucks!) -- rm10 for two separate things! it doesnt get any better than that -- at where else?

and a lace-back tank dress from cotton on. it fits rather weirdly at the waist, but just because i love the back so much, i will make it work regardless. belt it, or cinch it.

there was fireworks at arthur's day concert 22 floors below at the surf beach, pretty as hell, but equally as smokey too. attempted to take pictures, but was too blurry because of the amount of smoke from cheap fireworks. oh well.

done ranting, now back to packing and stuffing two pairs of shoes for home for a week starting tomorrow! cant wait to get back and see him, and also stuff my face with mooncakes :D

la Poussière de Diamants

the monash ball last friday was awesome! despite our seats at the poorest corner of the ballroom miles away from the stage and were unable to ogle at jein (from our days of disney buzz) or the 10 mr/miss monash nominees up close, but with the food and the company and some new friends made, it was priceless! (well, if you single out the rm80 ticket, rm90 outfit and rm20 hair styling)

*heavy amount of pictures ahead!*

the chandeliers matched the theme "diamonds dust"/"première"

the waiting area had these quaint couches and paintings hanging above them, with a vintage-y homey feeling. sitting down, you would never want to get up, especially if you are in heels that kills.

jein, whose face was totally over-exposed under (in) the spotlight

fresh pink roses as centre-pieces atop the waiting area tables

appetizer was caesar salad, dressed in mayonnaise with chicken bacon, yummy!

the view from my little corner seat

main course; roasted stuffed chicken breast with pistachios, garlic mashed potato and seasonal garden vegetable served with fresh herb sauce (what a mouthful!). the chicken breast was a tad bit dry, but the oh-so-heavenly smooth mashed potato made up for it

the plastic crystals that shimmered like diamonds around the tables was a clever addition; tiny details matter!

dessert, my fave! strawberry mousse with dragonfruit and peach. i wanted another serving!

when girls meet toilets with nice lightings = pictures

there's actually a story about this dress: i saw them in the september issue of cleo, and i knew i want them immediately (and badly), but couldnt find it at f21 at pyramid here in sunway, so i was on a mission to find it when i went back to penang that following weekend, and found it! on sale! but...

it was not my size, in fact it was 2 sizes too big! luckily my grandma altered it for me within one day. she separated the skirt and bustier part, nipped the bodice closer and tighter, and re-sewed them together. and it fit perfectly :) but i was so worried i would end up wearing the same dress as another girl since i saw many of them shopping at f21, but in the end there was nothing to worry about, i was over the moon!

ok, enough grandmother stories. moving on...

loved the coloured hues of this girl's dress

anusha trying to eat(?) the diamond

this shot costs 5bucks!

this was 5 bucks too, of us girls

it was amazing, although the company and food courses were lesser than last year's, but this year it was extremely special cuz it's our last year in uni..it was just unfortunate that another bunch of our friends couldnt make it because of assignments, but still, it was a memory not to be forgotten. thanks girls for making my night memorable! we had a ball of fun, didnt we? it's all that matters :)

the rest of the pictures were uploaded on my facebook, do come visit or better still, add me as your friend, if u have one!

"It is difficult to think of an origin without wanting to go back beyond it" (Eagleton, 1992, p. 131)

post-structuralism, interesting. although i am still figuring out what this sentence actually means. i am guessing that it means that since meanings are an articulation of signs, and signs consists of signifiers and signifieds that are constantly altered by the various chains of signifiers in which it is entagled, nothing is fixed. nothing means anything except because of its relation and it difference relative to other signs. "signs being themselves only because they are not some other signs" (p. 129). blue is not turquoise because it is not turquoise. there is no end-point to meanings, everything is caught up and traced through by something else, one signifier only leads you on to another signifier, and yet another. so where is the origin? like a chain of pearls strung together in a circular, where is the starting point and where is the end? there is no way of finding out but still, we want to know exactly what we do not know.
