the girl in the rain

she was walking back from uni when it started to rain heavily. raindrops the size of red beans and the weight of rocks. she retrieved her maroon fold-able umbrella from her bag with agility, and continued walking her route.

the rain got heavier. it hit on her puny umbrella with such force, the wind was so strong it almost blew it out of her grip. she struggled to keep it in place, protecting her bag and her books in her hand, and herself from the sudden heavy downpour. umbrella in one hand and psychology books in the other, she carefully made her way back to her place along the once familiar route now enveloped in rain.

despite it raining cats and dogs, she was actually feeling very peaceful inside. her bag was exposed to rain every time her umbrella danced about in the strong wind, her red strapped wedges soaking wet in puddles of rain water, her pale gray denim pants got wetter and wetter, heavier and heavier. but she felt at peace.

she looked at her surroundings, the cars driving past her, they got faster and faster. she turned her head and looked behind her, there was no one else but her. no one was stupid enough to walk back at this time and weather.

and she thought to herself, what would the drivers, in the dry and safe protection of their car, think when they see such a sight. a petite girl in seriously drenched jeans with a big shoulder bag, holding a minuscule weak fold-able umbrella, walking alone in violent weather. would they think she is crazy? or would they think she is helpless and lonesome? would they think she needed a ride? or would they not notice her at all?

yes, she's a very emotional girl, thoughts run through her mind like air in one's lungs. she stopped to cross the road and saw that no cars halt to let her pass. she did not think bad of them, they want to rush back to the warmth and security of home as much as she wanted too. and once she is back in the vicinity of her room she thought, she would make herself a mug of hot milo and unwind.

when she arrived at the doorstep to her room, she put down her umbrella to dry. and bathed herself clean. in the shower, she laughed at herself, at all the random thoughts she had during the 7 minutes walk back here alone in the rain. she did not make that mug of hot milo, but settled for warm green tea.

then she sat down in front of her computer and wrote the story of "the girl in the rain"
